Los Angeles (Spanish for "The Angels") is the largest city on the West Coast of North America in Southern California. It is known for its Mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity and Hollywood the center of the nation’s film and television industry with its iconic Hollywood sign.

Officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the most populous city in California and the second most populous city in the United States. Los Angeles is in a large basin bounded by the Pacific Ocean on one side and by mountains as high as 10,000 feet (3,000 m) on the other. The city covers about 469 square miles.
